Wick Old Stagers

Club History
Wick Old Stagers Miniature Rifle Club - the name given to the club when it was formed in Wick in October 1925 open to Ex-Servicemen (Naval and Military), Ex-Volunteers and Ex-Territorials (With preference given to old members of former Wick Rifle Clubs). The name was later changed to Wick Old Stagers Smallbore Rifle Club.
Wick ‘Old Stagers’ Rifle Club (with headquarters at the new Dairy Premises, South Road) held its first General Meeting Friday 8th January 1926 with over 30 members present. The Club President detailed the various steps taken in forming the club, securing the range, forming a committee etc and the Club Secretary read the proposed club rules which were unanimously adopted (In those days membership was limited with the subscription at 5s per annum).
The Stagers shot at the Dairy Premises until the early part of 1937 but due to structural alterations to the property wherein the club rented a range, the club was forced to seek new premises. By courtesy of the Trustees and Managers of the Henderson Memorial Home and the Wick Playing Fields Association, the club was offered a very suitable and central site for the range and clubroom within the grounds rented by the Rosebank Playing Fields Association. The new range was built in October for approximately £200 ready for the start of the 1937 indoor season with the new shooting distance of 25 Yards (the previous range was 15 Yards). The club still uses these premises today.
